KARACHI, Oct 3 (INP): Lyari area of Karachi remained tense for the second days Friday as firing and clashes between armed gangs left a man dead and eight others injured.

According to police and rescue officials, two armed gangs exchanged fire and hurled hand grenades on each other in a pitched battle at Gharib Shah road area of Lyari, a densely populated town considered to be hub of gangsters and drug peddlers.

“One of the grenades landed in street and exploded, leaving four children injured,” a police official said, adding four other people were injured in different firing incidents in the area. A man was shot dead in Chakiwara area of Lyari.

The fresh violence caused tension across Lyari where frightened people closed their businesses in several areas.

Yesterday, during their ongoing crackdown against criminals, Rangers claimed to have killed four alleged gangsters in Lyari locality.

According to Rangers spokesman, the gangsters, whose identification was not revealed, were killed in two separate encounters with the paramilitary troops.

Rangers said two other gang war members were arrested during the operation carried out in Shah Baig Lane of Lyari.
