ISLAMABAD: The echoes over Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz’s ‘scot-free’ movements in Islamabad turned into a heated debate in Senate on Friday when PPP’s Farhatullah Babar flashed first information report (FIR) copy against the cleric in the House.

Senator Babar raised the issue in the Senate in reference to a few days old remarks of Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan stating that Maulana could not be arrested as there was no FIR registered against him. He went on to say that ‘if parliamentarians have the FIR copy, they must show it.”

Senators of Mutahidda Qaumi Movements also staged a walkout from the House against non-arrest of the Maulana.

On December 18, 2014, Chaudhary Nisar during a National Assembly speech had said Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz cannot be arrested as no cases are registered against him.

FIR was registered against  cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz  at the Aabpara Police Station on application by civil society members on December 19, 2014.

The civil society members said submitted in their plea that Maulana Aziz and his four gunmen had given life threats to peaceful protesters outside Lal Masjid on Thursday. NNI
