Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam strongly condemned the move to file an FIR against Balochistan National Party chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and called it the worst example of fascism.
Aslam Ghori, the central spokesman of Jamiat Ulema Islam, said in his statement that he has always condemned cases against political leaders on the basis of revenge and will continue to do so in the future. The tradition of cases based on political revenge should end.
He said that political governments should keep in mind the difference between democracy and martial law. If only democratic governments come down on the role of political leaders, then what should be done with anyone else?
Jamiat Ulema Islam demanded immediate termination of the cases against Akhtar Mengal and said that democratic values should be maintained in politics.
