ISLAMABAD: Federal and provincial governments have submitted reports in Supreme Court regarding the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) functional in the country on Wednesday.
Deputy Attorney General presented the report in the court in which it has been said that under the society act, 635 NGOs are registered and working in the capital whereas under the social welfare act 494 NGOs are operational.
Report regarding Punjab NGOs was submitted by Additional Advocate General Punjab. According to this report 7516 NGOs are working in Punjab which are registered and regulated by social welfare department and Bait-ul-Maal. However; many NGOs are running without the social welfare law. These are effective under the society trust act, company’s ordinance and other laws.
The report also reveals that besides national and international support, the NGOs also get financial aid from the public whereas they are regularly monitored and their annual audit is also carried on.
In the report submitted by Additional Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), it has been stated that more than 10,000 NGOs are carrying out their activities in the province. However; there is no monitoring mechanism to check their foreign funding therefore their registration and other procedures are conducted according to Punjab’s law regarding NGOs.
Moreover, the report presented by Additional Advocate General Sindh has confirmed more than 1500 NGOs currently working in the province.
