ISLAMABAD: Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly criticised NADRA for not issuing CNICs to thousands of people of North Waziristan and other parts of FATA who migrated to Peshawar and other cities during Operation Zarb e Azb and warned to stage sit-ins outside offices of the Authority against this high handedness.
In an interview Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that consultations have begun for a strong protest against this attitude of NADRA and a privilege motion would also be tabled in the National Assembly.
According to reports, NADRA has refused to issue CNICs to Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) of North Waziristan and other parts of FATA for the last one year.
The Maulana had spoken to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan over the grievances of the people and the Minister directed Chairman NADRA to resolve the issue by meeting the JUI(F) chief.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he wrote a letter to Chairman NADRA recommending him to issue CNICs to 150 tribal elders and citizens as he knew them personally. However, he said Chairman NADRA did not respond to his letter despite passage of one year.
He said the issue would be strongly raised in the National Assembly during the next session and if considered necessary a privilege motion would be moved against Chairman NADRA.
Sources said that Parliamentarians from FATA have assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman of their cooperation. They said that the Maulana and FATA parliamentarians are considering to stage a sit in at NADRA Headquarters inIslamabad on Ist August when the National Assembly would begin its session. Tribal elders would stage protests outside NADRA offices in the Province of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.
