ISLAMABAD: In his message on the eve of Defense Day former President Asif Ali Zardari said that we salute and pay homage to the heroes of the nation; those brave men and women who have laid down their lives and made huge sacrifices in fighting the militants and enemies of Pakistan.

The enemy keeps changing the garb and location, he said. Today our worst enemy is the extremist and the religious fanatic who lives among us, is terrorizing people and seeking to undermine our national sovereignty. Let us on this day resolve to stand united in thought and action to defeat the enemies of the country.

Remember it is the unprecedented unity of the nation that can inspire our valiant defence forces and law enforcing agencies to the highest levels of valor, courage and sacrifice in the defence of the motherland, the former President said.

Today more than ever we need to revive our spirits and join ranks to defend the country against all forms of threats particularly the existential threat from the militants, he said.

It is also important to remember that the fight against these enemies can be won only if we adhered to the letter and spirit of the National Action Plan adopted unanimously by the nation. On this day we salute and pay homage to our martyrs who laid down their lives in upholding the honor of the country, he said.
