Extreme cold wave persists in parts of Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Fog on Monday continued engulfing parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while the flight operation also got affected due to extreme weather condition.

The severe wave of cold coupled with the fog and chilly winds made the conditions even more frigid. Citizens, cooped up in their homes to avoid the single digit temperatures, said a week has passed since they saw the sun.

The flight at Bacha Khan International Airport has also got affected. Flight Inquiry department further advised the passengers to get complete information before coming to airport.

The motorway part from Peshawar to Islamabad was closed due to dense fog, turning all the traffic to G.T. Road while the drivers were advised to use fog lights during travelling.

Talking about Multan and Lahore, the chilly weather has continued to persist, disrupting routines of locals. The visibility in Multan has reduced to 100 meters.

On the other hand, gas load shedding was also seen in various areas where people were forced to make fire to stay warm during the extreme temperatures.

Meanwhile, flights were also faced delay or even cancellation due to extreme weather condition. Sources told that the flights QR-632 from Doha to Islamabad, PA-231 from Abu

Dhabi to Islamabad, PK-292 from Mascat, PK-234 and PK- 615 from Dubai, national airlines’ 452 were cancelled while the flights scheduled to take passengers to other countries including PK-233, QR-633, EU-232, PK-4232, QR-615, KU-206, TK-711, PK-786, PK-741, PK-201 and PK-301 also got affected.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials said that the weather would be cold and dry in the coming 4-5 days while thick fog would remain blanket the parts of Punjab, Peshawar and upper Sindh.

Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during next 24 hours.
