ISLAMABAD (INP): Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan has stated that the export of Mangoes in 2014 has been around 90505 tons while it will continue for next couple of days. Last year export of mangoes had ceased at 61520 tons so the current figures are speaking loudly, the endeavors of Ministry of National Food Security. 4131 tons mangoes have been exported to European Union.
Sikandar Bosan said that in March 2014, European Union imposed ban on India to export mangoes to E.U. for the reason of 386 interceptions of “Fruit fly”, while for the same period 236 interceptions of fruit fly had been noticed on Pakistani mangoes by E.U. and showing the serious concerns, E.U. had shown yellow card to Pakistan.
My teams took instant action and with consultation of all stake holders an action plan was prepared. Sikandar Bosan said” we even stopped the export of mangoes for one week and ensured that no single consignment should be infected. Resultantly by the implementation of said plan Pakistan not only broke the last year export record of mangoes but also significantly reduced the number of interception of fruit fly from 236 to only two.
Federal Minister said that this time no single interception is noticed and Pakistan may come as number one exporter of mangoes from number four in the world.
Hesaid that 1 kg packet of mangoes has got 4.5 pound price in U.K. while it was priced 2.5 pound per kg earlier. Sikandar Bosan said that we have exported 1045777 million tons fruit and vegetables other than mangoes all over the world in 2014.
