LAHORE: While hearing the case of Pakistani’s foreign assets and bank accounts, on Monday, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar took policies of previous governments to task for having brought even newborns in debts.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) was heading a three-member bench in Lahore registry of Supreme Court. Irked by non-implementation of apex court’s directives in the case of foreign assets and bank accounts hold by Pakistanis, CJP questioned about the amount of debts that every child owes.

He further asked for all the details of loans taken by finance ministry in last 10 years and added, “These government take loans and leave those children to bear the burden who are not even born yet.”

Lashing out at the absence of Governor State Bank and Secretary Finance, the court stated that a crucial case of public welfare is underway and Governor State Bank and Secretary Finance do not seem to care about it.

Being censured over laundering of trillions, sharp decline in exports and issue of smuggling, CJP asked “why investigation has not been carried out for the capital worth trillions that was being laundered to Switzerland?”

It should be on the record that how many overseas assets and bank accounts each Pakistani owns, he added.

“Who says that we have rejected Amnesty Scheme? We have not been informed about the Amnesty Scheme,” CJP commented. NNI
