I can well imagine this statement can make my ardent readers’ stomach churn a little, but the fact is not denying that Pakistan’s foreign policy is not a failure; it is a success story instead. And don’t take my words for it; the developments in the world of diplomacy speak volumes of the fact that it is a success story.
We have engaged USA and China at the same time. We have also engaged Iran and Saudi Arabia and this is not an ordinary achievement. We supported Afghanistan against Soviet Union and subsequently we have engaged Russia as well. We have no match to India when it comes to a comparison in terms of defense expenditure, economic volume or consumer market that attracts the world for sure but around the globe we have established that we are there to compete and challenge India in all walks of life including diplomacy and strategy. We have not surrendered on Kashmir. We have not accepted its hegemony. Despite her desperate efforts India couldn’t manage to get a membership of OIC.
Yes we had to go for US war on terror but it was a compulsion as the USA was and is a sole super power but it doesn’t mean we gave it up completely. Rest is the history. Afghanistan is a gray area in our diplomacy and we have to do a hectic effort to keep it Pakistan friendly. Results are there. Even today after a huge investment India hasn’t got a walkover against us in Afghanistan.
We are the sole nuclear state in Muslim world. Despite the huge pressure we haven’t signed CTBT, NPT and FMCT.
Right at the moment 130 counties are participating in One Belt One Road conference in China but India is not there. Had Pakistan been the absentee there would have been a huge cry for failure on diplomatic front. Similarly we must acknowledge our achievements. Raise your head sir, our foreign policy is not a failure; it is a success story.
