England off the mark with win against Scotland

England got off the mark in the World Cup following consecutive defeats at the hand of Australia and New Zealand by beating Scotland. England were put into bat by Scotland on a sunny day in Christchurch.

Ian Bell and Moeen Ali put on a 172-runs stand for the first wicket. England second wicket fell on 201 when Moeen was dismissed but by then he had already piled up 128 runs.

England couldn’t capitalize on the solid start provided by Moeeen and Bell and were restricted to a total of 303 runs by Scotland. Josh Davey was the pick of the bowlers for Scotland with 4-wickets.

In reply none of the Scottish batsmen except Kyle Coetzer (71) was able to put up a fight. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and they were eventually bundled out for 184 giving England a 119 runs victory. Anderson, Woakes and Moeen Ali all took two wickets while Finn starred with three wickets. Moeen Ali was given man of the match for his excellent all-round performance that included a century and two wickets.
