inp 17-85: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday pledged to continue operations to eliminate terrorists on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The army chief was visiting Kabul to hold talks with the Afghan leadership on boosting security and continuing operations against Taliban militants.

Gen Raheel Sharif was flanked by a high-level military delegation which included DG ISI Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar.

The COAS and the Afghan president appreciated improving relations between the two countries, DG ISPR Maj Gen Asim Bajwa said in messages posted on Twitter.

Both leaders also agreed not to allow the use of one country’s soil against the other neighbouring country, he said.

Gen Raheel Sharif also met Afghan CEO Dr Abdullah Abdullah, who acknowledged positive trajectory in bilateral relations, concrete progress in operations, border management and intelligence sharing, said the DG ISPR.

“The enemies of Afghanistan are the enemies of Pakistan. We are there to stand by you and to fight this war and to fight this war to the end,” Gen Sharif told Abdullah.

This menace of terrorism which has hurt both Afghanistan and Pakistan needs to be tackled boldly, he added.
