Contrary to the claims of Capital Development Authority (CDA), the CDA has failed to remove encroachments in many markets and encroachers have been given a free hand in the federal capital. Illegal stalls of jewelry, ready-made clothes, fruits, vegetables and other items of daily use set up on the footpaths and in front of the shops in the busy markets of the capital are not only a nuisance for shoppers but also severely hinder traffic flow. This unchecked illegal practice also mars the beauty of the capital.
A shopkeeper while talking to the scribe on condition of anonymity said that despite occasional anti-encroachment drives by the CDA in which items are confiscated by the authority, the same encroachers appear again within hours. He claimed that rampant encroachment in markets is not possible without the collusion of officials in the CDA. Abdul Wahab, a resident who lives near the 1-10 Markaz, told Daily The Patriot that various open spaces and footpaths are encroached by illegal stall owners in the market which means that there is no space for pedestrians and motorists. Another customer at the G-9 Markaz said that it had become almost impossible to walk freely in the market because of the encroachments. Residents have demanded the high authorities to take notice of rampant encroachments.
