In a surprise but a positive move, government has announced to rename Quaid-i-Azam University's National Centre for Physics in honour of first Pakistatani Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam. Government should be appreciated for initiative to recognize unsung heroes of this country. Particularly a hero, who was debatably considered a controversial figure among some religious hardliners. Incumbent government by shrugging off all the fears, showed great will to recognize a great scientist of Pakistan. It seemed that Abdus Salam was embraced all over the world for his phenomenal research work except his own country. Unfortunately he was not given the respect and appreciation he deserved just because of his religious affiliation. His contributions in the field of science and particularly to Pakistan's nuclear program should have earned him status of a great national hero. Recognizing a hero belonging to minorities shall help reducing religious discrimination. Religious minorities in Pakistan often live in an atmosphere of fear. We hope decision of government would ensure better days ahead for religious minorities. It would also inspire extra-ordinary people from religious minorities to further contribute in prosperity and promoting soft image of country. It was indeed a much needed step to fulfill the vision of Quaid to make Pakistan secure for everyone.
