QUETTA, Dec 28 (INP): A heavy gunfight between security forces and suspected separatists in Dera Bugti left at least one Frontier Corps (FC) personnel martyred and eight militants killed here on Saturday evening.
Reports say the militants were killed in a retaliatory fire following an ambush on the security forces patrolling the town located in the turbulent Balochistan province, which is facing a tribal insurgency, sectarian violence and Taliban attacks.
According to FC officials, the shootout kicked off after insurgents positioned in nearby hills targeted an FC vehicle in Loti area of Dera Bugti, the hometown of late Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, who was killed in 2006.
Though, none of the rampaging militant groups took credit for the attack, but Baloch separatists are seen as likely perpetrators.
At least seven paramilitary troops sustained wounds in the ambush.
