ISLAMABAD (INP): A working group comprising of academicians and researchers would be formed for promotion of teaching and research in local conflicts in Pakistan. This was agreed during a meeting of officials of Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (I-SAPS) and Inter University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities Pakistan (IUCPSS) an autonomous voluntary organization of public and private sector universities.
During the meeting, it was also agreed on the holding of specialized trainings for young faculty members on teaching and research of conflicts in Pakistan. It was also agreed that IUCPSS and I-SAPS will develop five case studies on local conflicts, with one from each province. The studies will be presented in the National Conference on Conflicts, Crises and Culture: Challenges and Opportunities to be organized by IUCPSS in collaboration with other partners in June 2015.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Nasser Ali Khan Vice Chancellor, University of Haripur and Chairman IUCPSS, Dr. Salman Humayun Executive Director I-SAPS and Ahmad Ali senior research fellow of I-SAPS. The participants of the meeting were of the unanimous view that there was dearth of academic works on local ethnic, sectarian, social, political and environmental conflicts and this issue could be resolved through collaborative efforts aiming at encouraging reaching and research on local conflicts in Pakistani higher education institutions.
