ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stopped implementation of Prime Minister’s Kissan package over violation of the election code.
The ECP Secretary Babar Yaqub said that the package had announced the subsidy outside the budget.
According to details, the ECP had reserved the decision on the issue and has been formally read out today. The ECP said in its verdict that no development scheme can be announced after the schedule of the local body election has been issued.
The commission said that the government advertised the package more than it was needed which is also a violation of the code of conduct; therefore, the implementation of 3 major parts of the package has been stopped until December 3.
The detailed verdict imposes a ban on Rs 5000 per acre in aid, reduction of 2% in the interesr rate and subsidy.
PM Nawaz had announced the Rs 341 billion Kissan package on September 15 on which the Election Commission had taken notice. The ECP has also summoned the Secretary Information and Secretary Food over it.
