ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday extended the tenures of tribunals working countrywide for the fourth time by at least two months.
The ECP has directed the tribunals to finish hearings of the pending election petitions as soon as possible.
The tribunals whose tenures have been extended include three in Punjab, one in Sindh and another in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). All five tribunals have as many as 25 cases pending collectively. However, the Rawalpindi tribunal has been dissolved as there was no case pending there.
The tribunals were formed after the General Elections 2013 to hear petitions regarding controversial constituencies within at least 120 days. It has been two years and still there are pending petitions.
