ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has taken notice of the increase in prices of some essential commodities including sugar, ghee and edible oil despite the overall decline in inflation.
In a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the ECC members expressed concern over the increase in prices of sugar, ghee and edible oil in Pakistan despite the decline in inflation in the global market and directed to improve the supply of essential commodities before the month of Ramadan.
The ECC has also directed the Ministry of Industries, Production and Food to maintain close coordination with the National Price Monitoring Committee. The ECC also emphasized on ensuring stocks of wheat, sugar and pulses and eliminating nexus and hoarding, and the Finance Minister expressed his determination to ensure supply of goods at reasonable rates during Ramadan.
During the meeting, the committee also approved a grant of Rs 2.79 billion for the Revenue Division, while this amount will be spent on the purchase of arms and ammunition, digital stations and check posts.
A technical grant of Rs 500 million has also been approved for the Intelligence Bureau in the meeting of the Economic Committee of the Cabinet.
