KARACHI: A consensual report according to 7 member Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) shows that former Federal Minister and Chairman of provincial Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Asim Hussain had indeed provided treatment and financial aid to terrorists. The report , according to reports, also states that Dr. Asim’s acts of unlawfully using his official powers to issue licenses to medical colleges in return for money and illegal ownership of government land has also been proven.
Prior to this, Special Public Prosecutor of Dr. Asim’s case Mushtaq Jehangiri presented a list of terrorists in court who had been treated in Zia-ud-Din Hospital for their injuries at privileged fees on the advice of Dr. Asim.The Prosecutor also presented the medical bills of these treatments in court.
The list includes terrorists of outlawed organizations Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Lyari Gangwar along with political workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Lyari gangwar suspects Akhtar Baloch, Faisal Dada, Hanif DJ, Majid, Asif Niazi and others were treated for their wounds at Zia-ud-Din Hospital. The list of names and medical bills were taken from the record of the hospital.
Dr. Asim Hussain has been accused of giving medical treatment in his hospital to those terrorists who had been wounded in clashes with the police and Rangers. These terrorists also include those for which Sindh government itself had fixed a price.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) earlier had to return empty handed as police refused to hand over Dr. Asim Hussain to the NAB officials. Police officials stated that the former Federal Minister’s matter of custody faces complex legal issues due to which he could not be handed over to the NAB team.
Police had earlier finalized their investigative report regarding the case stating that it had found no evidence linking Dr. Asim s involvement in giving medical treatment or financially aiding the terrorists, after which the sections of anti-terrorism were removed from the case registered against him on the Rangers complaint.
