Foreign office spokesman confirmed that Turkish law enforcement agencies have recovered six Pakistani men who had been abducted for ransom allegedly by Kurdish pirates in Turkey. Turkish law enforcement authorities told the Consulate General of Pakistan in Istanbul that men rescued have been identified as Fazal Amin, Adil Ahmad, Muhammad Zeeshan, Abid, Usman Ali and Ashbar Ahmad.
Authorities in Pakistan accelerated efforts to rescue abducted Pakistanis in Turkey, after a video gone viral on social media that abducted boys were being brutality tortured by the abductors who were asking for hefty ransom for their release. Interior Ministry came into action and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a group of three members involved in human trafficking.
FIA revealed that busted network of human traffickers had received Rs600,000 from Zeeshan, Usman, Abid and Adeel to send them to Turkey. In Turkey, they met an agent, but were later kidnapped by miscreants who tortured them brutally and sent videos to their families in Pakistan on WhatsApp. The kidnappers demanded Rs2 million each as ransom for their release.
Members of held group from Gujranwala were negotiating the ransom amount with abductors in Turkey. FIA has also disclosed that the traffickers had a network in Pakistan and Turkey. Network was operating since long and used to operate under the guise of a recruitment agency and send people to Turkey fraudulently. There are many such networks operating in the country, after taking large sums of money they send people with the promise of employment to Turkey and other European countries. Unemployed Pakistani youth in search of better job opportunities usually become victim of human traffickers. FIA took immediate action after Interior Ministry came into action. But there is need to take preemptive measures to eradicate networks involved in the human trafficking. Such cases should not happen in the first place. It is believed that many other trafficking networks are still running and growing unreported. It is a serious matter but sadly it remains unaddressed, govt should take strict measures to curb human trafficking.
