ISLAMABAD: Serious differences have surfaced within the Pakistan Tehrik e Insaaf over the nomination of opposition leader from the party.
According to report, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been lobbying hard for his election as opposition leader so that PTI could have a role in the appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau as well as caretaker Prime Minister before 2018 elections. In this connection he met MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar who announced his backing for PTI as the party has serious differences with the Ruling party in Sindh.
However sources in the PTI say that Jehangir Tareen group is strongly opposing nomination of Shah Mahmood Qureshi as opposition leader. They said it is because of these differences that no one has been nominated for the job as yet.
Senior Party leaders are urging Imran Khan to be himself a candidate so as to avoid open differences in the PTI.
Meanwhile according to PPP sources, the PTI and MQM-P lack the required number to install their opposition leader in the national assembly.
The PTI has received another set back as the PML-Q has made it known that it has no problem with the PPP and would thus continue to support Khursheed Shah as opposition leader.
On the other hand the Jamaat-e-Islami is also non committal over support to PTI move. Party leaders said that the PTI takes decisions on its own and then try to gather support of other parties.
The Pakistan Muslim League (Q) has also expressed reservations of the name of Shah Mehmood Qureshi as opposition leader.
In his statement party chief Chaudhary Shujaat accused that his party was not taken in confidence before appoint of Shah Mehmood as new opposition leader.
“After finalizing the name of the Shah Mehmood we were contacted, it is unfair,” said Ch Shujaat.
The PTI has launched drive recently to dethrone incumbent Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah and got its man elected in his place.
