ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq Monday said that democracy in Pakistan has been hijacked; he stated this while speaking exclusively to Sardar Khan Niazi in Roze News program Sachi Baat. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that in Pakistan politicians change loyalties and switch parties but never change their character. Commenting on the Election Commission of Pakistan, Siraj said that the accountability of the Election Commission is of vital importance. He recommended that no Minister or Secretary should be allowed to keep a house of more than 10 marlas. Responding to a question by Sardar Khan Niazi, Siraj-ul-Haq said that when the leaders mend themselves the public will follow.
Responding to a question regarding the recent stiffness in Pakistan’s relations with United States Siraj said that United States has never stood by Pakistan in the hour of need. The Jamaat-e-Islami chief said that the country practically doesn’t have a foreign policy at the moment and demanded that the foreign policy of the country must be discussed in the parliament.
Siraj who recently launched a corruption-free Pakistan movement said that he is hopeful that other political parties will also join his movement. He claimed that his own party is corruption free and thanks to the train march of Jamaat-e-Islami the public now has better awareness regarding the issue of corruption. Siraj said that the past governments should also be held accountable and added that everyone should be held accountable not just the Prime Minister. He however said that the incumbent government cannot do anything to curb corruption. Speaking on the killing of Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Siraj said that Mansour was in favor of peace talks.
