CHITRAL/SKARDU: Death toll in Chitral district and adjoining areason Friday reached to at least 11 in destruction caused by floods.
According to details, as many as 13 connective bridges are destroyed while at least three highways flooded. At least three schools and as many as eight mosques have been damaged in the floods.
Natural Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided at least seven ton ration to the affected families in Chitral.
Reportedly, at least 200 houses have been demolished in Chitral. Separately, several areas in Kalash Valley and Ganche have lost land connections with other parts.
At least six people, including two women, have lost their lives due to heavy rains and flash floods in Chitral valley, says an official report by the district administration.
The report, prepared by Chitral District Commissioner Amin ul Haq and forwarded to the government on Friday, also says that over 350,000 people have been stranded in different parts of the mountainous region.
The report add that crop fields spanning more than 1,200 acres has also been destroyed, while 61 water supply schemes have also been irreparably damaged.
Six percent of orchards have also suffered damages due to the floods, says DC Amin ul Haq in the report.
Meanwhile Flood relief and rescue operation by army troops continue in Chitral, Gilgit – Baltistan and Southern Punjab.
According to ISPR, at Chitral 17.5 tons of ration has been distributed so far and 164 affected people were rescued by two MI-17 helicopters from Rambur, Kurggh, Birri, Bumboret and Chashma to safer places. Road N-45 has been opened by Army Engineers for all type of traffic till Chitral, whereas road from Chitral and Buni is open for light traffic only. Work on road Chitral – Bubmoret is in progress. Road Buni – Masting is also being repaired.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, 40 km of damaged road in district Astore has been repaired by Army Engineers and restoration of roads in district Hunza, Skardu, Khaplu and Ghanche is in progress.
Four relief / medical camps have been established at Shiger, Khaplu and Hunza. Tents have been pitched and cooked food being provided to affectees in relief camps.
Cooked food was also provided to over 2000 families in Waziristan / Shigar and sufficient quantity of K-2 oil provided to affected people of Khaplu. Relief goods were also provided to affected people in Hisper in Hunza district.
In Southern Punjab, 71 persons were rescued at Jhakr Imam in D.G Khan area while Army troops alongwith boats, Out Boat Motions (OBMs) and life jackets have been employed at likely flood places in Rajanpur, D.G Khan, Muzafargarh and Layyah. 2 medical camps have been established at Rajanpur and Layyah.
Army troops in collaboration with civil administration have evacuated 13893 people in Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur and Liaqatpur during last two days.
