RAWALPINDI: Citing US General, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Wednesday confirmed death of Army Public School (APS) attack mastermind Umar Narai in Afghanistan, according to media reports on Wednesday.
Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General John Nicholson called Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and confirmed death Umar Narai alias Khailfa Umar, also known as Khalid Khurasani, DG ISPR Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said.
There were reports that Umar Narai was killed along with another militant leader, Qari Saifullah, in the strike in the Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province.
The massacre on December 16, 2014, 144 students and staff members were martyred after seven gunmen of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) stormed the APS in Peshawar.
Umar, who fled to Afghanistan after a military operation was launched in the tribal region of Khyber to nab him, was killed within two months of him being designated a global terrorist by the US State Department.
The US State Department, on May 25, designated Umar Narai as a global terrorist, clearing the path for his inclusion in its hit list. Agencies
