Cultural gala at Pakistan house in connection with Independence Day

Globe pic 1CAPE TOWN: A grand Cultural Gala was organized at Pakistan House (High Commissioner’s Residence) on 17th August 2014 to depict and showcase Pakistan’s rich culture in South Africa. The Gala formed part of the “Taqreebat-e-Youm-e-Azadi” being held throughout Pakistan and in our Embassies abroad.
This was the first ever such event hosted by High Commission of Pakistan since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and South Africa in 1994. A large number of local South Africans from all walks of life including officials, doctors, businessmen, bankers and members of Pakistani expatriate community from all over South Africa attended the Gala. The Gala showcased typical Pakistani traditions, customs, dresses and cuisine, offering a unique opportunity for locals as well as Pakistani community to spend a festive day full of entertaining and joyous activities. These included Speech Competition, Pakistani Dress Show, Quiz Competition, Couples’ Understanding event and live singing of Milli Naghmay. Mehndi and Face Painting stalls were also set up for the occasion. H. E. Najm us Saqib, High Commissioner cut a cake with several Pakistani children to commemorate the 68th independence day of Pakistan.
The guests were captivated by the richness and diversity of Pakistani culture, portrayed through several items in an elegant setting, tastefully decorated with arts and craft of Pakistan. The South Africans were pleasantly surprised when they found themselves involved in activities like Couples Understanding event. In his concluding remarks, the High Commissioner highlighted the culture and traditions of Pakistan and emphasized their significance in promoting a soft image of Pakistan. He announced to hold such events on a regular basis and urged the Pakistani Community to step up their efforts in this regard. Agencies
