Patriot Report
Lahore:

The efforts of Punjab police to control crime in the province and arrest criminals have failed miserably, as per statistics available with Daily The Patriot 299, 290 crimes have been reported in the province this year alone till September. Despite massive spending on the police department the performance of the department has gone downhill.

As per statistics 3,484 murders, 4,013 attempted murders, 10, 266 kidnappings, 2,107 rapes and 171 gang rapes occurred in Punjab this year till September which speaks volumes about the performance of Punjab police.  It is pertinent to mention that the Interior Ministry recently informed the National Assembly that the highest rate of robberies and street crime have been reported in Punjab.

The above mentioned statistics are indeed shocking and speak volumes of the incompetence of the Punjab Police. It is important to mention that the Punjab Government has spent a huge amount on the police department to improve the law and order situation. New vehicles, air-conditioned offices and modern equipment are among just a few of the perks and facilities that have been provided to the officials of the Punjab Police, however it seems that instead of improving their performance the Punjab Police has taken a step back, as criminals run amok throughout the province.

The growing crime in Punjab has left the citizens fearing for their lives. Due to the growing cases of street crimes in Punjab’s capital, Lahore, streets often present a deserted view in many localities of the city as soon as the sun sets as people avoid leaving home due to the fear of criminals.

1,182 dacoties, 12,787 robberies, 9,881 burglaries, 13,504 motor vehicle thefts and 3,856 motor vehicle snatching cases have been registered this year till September. The statistics prove that the Punjab Police has failed in its attempts to improve the law and order situation and that the province has become a safe heaven for criminal elements that terrorize citizens at will.

The fact that as many as 6,000 policemen from the operations wing of Lahore police are guarding VIPs, VVIPs and their families is also one of the main reasons that has left people at the mercy of criminals and terrorists.
