ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court admitted on Monday admitted a contempt of court petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
A lawyer Makhdoom Niaz Inqilabi has moved to the court seeking contempt of court proceeding against the former Prime Minister for his alleged contemptuous remarks against judiciary in a speech on August 25.
He claimed that Sharif spoke of the judiciary’s link with power, which falls under the contempt of court law. The hearing will be held next month.
During the speech, held at a lawyers’ convention in Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Sharif reiterated his stance against the Supreme Court decision which led to his disqualification on July 28.
Addressing the convention, he said that for many years he has been fighting the case of the people and democracy.
