Despite the appeals of international community and United Nations to not violate human rights in occupied Kashmir, Indian atrocities in held Kashir are on the rise. On Friday 12-year old student, Junaid Ahmed was killed by Indian forces using pellet guns, he was the only son of his parents and the brother of three sisters. On the funeral procession of Junaid, Indian forces rained tear smoke shells and pellets and bullets at them, leaving dozens of civilians injured. People just wanted to bury the young boy with respect but Indian forces once again showed the brutality, they are best known for. In his funeral, thousands of participants were chanting anti-India slogans, when they were attacked by Indian forces. According to reports in the single day more than fifty people received critical injuries and numbers are likely to increase.
There is another ugly side of brutal episode of human rights violations committed by Indian in the held Kashmir, almost from last hundred days valley is under siege, curfew is imposed which has caused severe shortage of food, medicines, water and other basic amenities by limiting their entry into the valley. International human rights teams are not being given access into the valley which shows that India wants to further violate human rights by snatching freedom of movement and speech. At this crucial point international community must not put aside critical condition of Kashmiri people and an independent, transparent inquiry is the need of time to unveil Indian brutalities. Otherwise, continued Indian atrocities in Kashmir would take the valley into civil war. It is harsh reality that international organizations including UN have failed to give people of Kashmir the right of self-determination.
It is high time that international community must act to end Indian brutality and occupation of Kashmir.
