Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Friday stated that 2016 will be a year of national unity and peace. The Army Chief said this during meeting with Baloch elders in Gwadar. General Raheel Sharif expressed hope that nexus of terrorism, crime and corruption would be completely eliminated in current year.

He was visiting Gwadar to assess progress on the projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor; he also vowed complete elimination of nexus of terrorism, crime and corruption. General Raheel assured full support of army on security and development of Gwadar Port; he also highlighted the potential of the port. The COAS expressed his gratitude and paid tribute to the brave people of Balochistan and highlighted the potential of the region. Indeed Gwadar holds critical importance for both China and Pakistan, and it appears that army is making arrangements, including providing a new security force to ensure the safety of Chinese workers which is essential for the success of the project.

Foundation stone of the western route of CPEC has been laid which would lead from Khyber Pakhtunkha and Balochistan. Army is making sure for the timely and successful completion of the projects because prosperity of the country is linked with these projects.

Due to sacrifices rendered by the brave son of the soil and military operations against the terrorists, security of the country particularly of Balochistan has improved immensely.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff confirmed death sentences awarded to another nine hardcore terrorists, who were involved in committing heinous offences relating to terrorism, including attack on Parade Lane Mosque, Inter Services Intelligence Headquarters, Multan, attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies, kidnapping and killing civilians in Lahore. These convicts were tried by military courts.

Efforts of our armed forces for the completion of CPEC projects are laudable.
