KARACHI: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said on Wednesday that peaceful atmosphere in Karachi is vital to ensure welfare of citizens and for resuming trade activities.
He made these remarks during his visit to Corps Headquarter Karachi where he was briefed by Corps Commander and Director General Rangers on operation preparedness, operations and latest law and order situation in Karachi.
He further said that the mafia will be cleaned from city with cooperation from public and government.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Raheel Sharif expressed satisfaction on the ongoing Karachi operation, saying that a decrease has been seen in target killing and extortion since the advent of operation.
The Army Chief said that the mafia will be defeated by collaborating with government and masses as restoration of peace in Karachi is vital to country’s economy. He added that the operation would be seen to its logical end and will be conducted without discrimination.
General Raheel Sharif said that he had given directions to DG Rangers and intelligence agencies to catch target killers and their collaborators.
The Army Chief also expressed satisfaction over peaceful conduction of NA-246 by-elections.
Gen Raheel’s statement comes hours after the murder of Assistant Professor Karachi University Dr Waheed-ur-Reman.
“Karachi operation (is) bringing relief in term of target killing and extortion. The operation will remain across (the) board, indiscriminate, and continue until its logical conclusion,” said another tweet that appeared on Bajwa’s Twitter handle.
Bajwa also quoted the COAS as saying that the more recent pattern of killings indicated a design, which must be decoded.
