PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday vowed to ensure timely and dignified return of Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) in the tribal areas, army spokespersons Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said.
It may be noted that some 93,000 families, up to 750,000 people, have been displaced inside Pakistan since the Pak Army launched a long-awaited offensive in June 2014 against Taliban and other foreign militants, who have long used the lawless tribal region as a launch-pad for attacks.
General Raheel Sharif, Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Governor Mehtab Abbasi and other high officials participated in a special apex committee meeting in at Corpse Headquarters in Peshawar.
The meeting reviewed security situation and intelligence based operations operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Areas (FATA) with main focus on return, resettlement and rehabilitation of TDPs in FATA.
Addressing the participants, the Army Chief reiterated his commitment with tribal brethren to rebuild the area and revive entire socio-eco infrastructure.
He emphasised to expedite resettlement by removing impediments causing delay in timely completion.
General Raheel Sharif also paid tributes to resilience of people of KPK and FATA who ‘stood up to terrorist atrocities, pushed and marginalised them.’ NNI
