BEIJING: China has rejected reports stating that president Xi Jinping did not hold any formal meeting with Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif during the recent meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Media reports suggested that Xi, who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other world leaders, did not formally meet Sharif to express his displeasure over the killing of two Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
“ I can tell you that during the 17th SCO heads of state meeting President Xi held friendly talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif many times.
“I can tell you that during the 17th SCO heads of state meeting, president Xi met with Pakistan prime minister Sharif several times. Media reports are just nonsense and unwanted,” foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said adding, “China and Pakistan enjoy an all-weather strategic partnership and enjoying relationship that runs long and deep”.
