BEIJING: The Chinese government is highly concerned over rising tension in the Indian-held Kashmir, reports Chinese media.
Chinese State-run news Agency, XINHUA quoted spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lu Kang as having said that China is distressed over the prevailing situation across the India-Pakistan border.China called on India and Pakistan to communicate more and properly handle their differences for regional peace, stability and security.
The spokesperson said China was concerned about the recent violence in Kashmir and the tension between India and Pakistan. India and Pakistan are important countries in the region, Lu said, adding that China hopes they will show restraint and avoid action that may escalate the tension.
Stressing that China opposes terrorism in any form, Lu called for more international communication to deal with the threat of terrorism and to maintain security.
Earlier, according to another report, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in New York hoped that there will be a better understanding of Pakistan’s position on Kashmir by the international community and that Beijing attaches great importance to Islamabad’s position on Kashmir.
Chinese Premier said his country would stand with Pakistan. “We support Pakistan and will speak for Pakistan at every forum.”
Stating that Pakistan was a victim of terrorism, the Chinese premier hoped the situation between India and Pakistan would not escalate. “We are ready to play constructive role in improvement of relations between Pakistan and India,” the Chinese Premier added.
Li said China will stand with Pakistan; we support Pakistan and we will speak for Pakistan at every forum.
Nawa Sharif thanked China for expressing concern regarding Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
He said that Pakistan and China were “iron brothers” and they would continue to work together for promoting peace, stability and development in the region.
