Charsadda (Web Desk) At least 21 people were left in an armed assault on the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, about 50 kilometres from provincial capital Peshawar, eye witnesses reported two large explosions as security forces moved in under dense fog to halt the bloodshed.
Students spoke of one brave teacher — named by various television reports as Syed Hamid Hussain, who fought back against the attackers, shooting his weapon in a bid to protect the students.
A geology student Zahoor said his chemistry lecturer Prof Dr. Syed Hamid Hussain had warned him not to leave the building after the first shots were fired. “He was holding a pistol in his hand,” he added.
“Then I saw a bullet hit him. I saw two militants were firing. I ran inside and then managed to flee by jumping over the back wall.”
Professor Dr. Syed Hamid Hussain had a PhD in organic chemistry from University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
