RAWALPINDI: The 67th martyrdom Anniversary of Captain Sarwar Shaheed, who was given Pakistan’s highest gallantry award Nishan-e-Haider for his valor in fight against India, was observed on Monday.

Large number of people including family members and locals visited his grave and offered fateha. Captain Sarwar Shaheed was born on 10th November, 1910, at Singhori of Gujar Khan, in Rawalpindi district. Captain Sarwar Shaheed started his career as a guard but he became a permanent army guard within four years.

During the Second World War he got a lot of promotion and in 1944 he became second lieutenant. In 1946, he was sent to Punjab regiment and six months before the partition of sub-continent he became Captain.

In 1947, he voluntarily took part in the battle for retaking Kashmir. The Indian troops were attacked and were forced to retreat the Northern Areas.

Captain Sarwar launched an attack causing heavy casualties at Uri Sector. His regiment received heavy machine gun fire along with grenades and mortar fire. He was killed by a machine gun fire as he along with five other men was cutting barb wires.

He was subsequently awarded the highest military award of Pakistan, Nishan-e-Haider in recognition for his bravery.
