ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has decided to launch a campaign against smoke emitting vehicles from tomorrow (Monday) in coordination with Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The decision to this effect was made here  during a meeting between SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob and DG EPA Dr. Muhammad Khursheed.

The trained staff of both departments would use smoke sensor and Deci Bell meter to check vehicles while lights, side mirrors and indicators of motorcyclists would also  be checked during this campaign which would be headed by SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob.

Action will be also taken against those who are plying their vehicles without fitness certificates issued from the office of Motor Vehicle Examiner.

Malik Matloob said that ITP is also working with (EPA) to take action against smoke emitting vehicles and special squads would work to check environmental pollution. He said that purpose of this campaign is not to take punitive measure against anyone but to ensure road safety and discipline by making citizens more law abiding.
