ISLAMABAD (INP): Federal Minister for Finance Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting here on Thursday to assess the damage and devastation caused by the recent floods in the country.
Secretary Cabinet Ikhlaq Ahmad Tarar in his briefing to the Finance Minister apprised him of the initial estimated damage caused by the floods. According to Ikhlaq Ahmad Tarar, the real estimates of the damage could only be given after the water recedes. Initial estimates drawn up by NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) indicate that this calamity is on a huge scale and that the loss to the crops is unprecedented.
The Federal Minister for Finance directed all the stakeholders present in the meeting to give realistic estimates of the damage caused before any rehabilitation work is undertaken.
The Finance Minister said that NDMA should start an awareness campaign for making the public aware of the losses to life and property in Azad-Jammu Kashmir (AJK) and Punjab to direct relief efforts to places where it is most required. “Media teams should visit these flood affected areas and focus more on the people who are in urgent need of
help,” said the Minister.
