Its pleasing that moon sighting for first Ramazan did not become controversial this year, in all parts of the country, people observed first fast of Ramazan on the same day. Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman made announcement regarding the sighting of the moon, marking the beginning of the holy month. He also thanked the Imam of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar, Mufti Popalzai for his cooperation for observing first of Ramazan with rest of the country. Mufti Popalzai usually announces first of Ramazan and Eid day a day earlier than the rest of the country. But this time he announced the moon sighting on the same day. Muslims in Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, observed the first fast of the holy month of Ramazan on Monday. June is one of the hottest months in the country when heatwaves remain on peak and hot weather grips most parts of the country. In previous years extreme hot weather caused number of casualties. It would be wise decision that during the day while observing fasts, people should refrain from going out in hot weather unnecessarily. Government should launch awareness campaign regarding observing fast during extreme hot weather. Concerned authorities should also check another issue of price hike. It has been observed that with the arrival of holy month prices of edible items increased manifold. Authorities must make sure that price of various commodities remain at the authorized level, so masses could observe fast with true spirit. It’s a good omen that people observed first fast of Ramazan on the same day.
