KARACHI: Protests erupted against ban on women cricket at University ofKarachi, with several students slamming a student wing of a religious group for its extremism against women within the campus.

Last week, a student wing of a religious party had attacked a group of male and female students playing cricket together in the university ground. The students had to wait for over an hour for their point buses to return homes.

To spend their leisure time, they started playing cricket. The activists of the student wing of a religious party arrived at the spot and thrashed the students for intermingling.

The incident sparked protest within the university campus against the ‘violent’ student wing. In a latest development, the varsity administration has imposed ban on women cricket, drawing protest from scores of students.

The media was also stopped from covering the students protest in the university. Security guards of the varsity also thrashed journalists at the entrance gate.

Security guards of University of Karachi (KU) brutally tortured media representatives for covering the female students protesting against the ban on playing cricket in the university.

The students were staging protest against the ban by playing cricket in front of Admin Block. The security guards unleashed a series of kicks, punches and slaps and closed all the gates, holding the journalists hostage in the university.

The closure of gates also triggered panic among the university teachers and students.

Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad took notice of the incident after which security guards reopened gate No. 3.  NNI
