ISLAMABAD: Taking part in the discussion on the CCI report in the Senate o Thursday PPP’s Senator Farhatullah Babar called for taking up the issue of equal rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the federal government over oil and gas discovered in the province.
He said that the CCI after 18th amendment had fundamentally altered the power balance between federal government and the provinces but the provinces had not yet fully appreciated this huge shift of power in their favour. Later talking to media he said that he had also separately written to chief minister Pervez Khattak on the issue.
On a motion of Senator Farhatullah Babar the Chairman also referred to the human rights committee of the senate the issue of retaliatory killings by security agencies in the wake of killings of twenty labors in Turbat.
He called for referring the matter to human rights committee after the government failed to give assurance to hold a judicial inquiry into the incident as demanded by him. He expressed concern over the extra judicial killings in Balochistan by the security agencies saying that the state was resorrting to the same tactics as that of the militants and lawless elements.
About the cancellation of seminar in LUMS Lahore on the situation in Balochistan at the instance of a premier security agency that had been raised in the Senate Wednesday the leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq assured the house that he will get back after seeking information from the provincial government of Punjab.
