KARACHI: In a joint police-Sindh Rangers operation on Wednesday, one of the individuals responsible for an armed attack on a fire station in Karachi’s Korangi neighbourhood that resulted in the deaths of two employees was captured.
According to the spokesperson, a combined operation that was conducted in the city’s Manzoor Colony neighbourhood resulted in the arrest of suspect Sheikh Bilal Zafar Farooqi, who was involved in terrorist activities. The suspect’s possession of weapons and ammo was also found, he claimed.
The official stated that the suspect had already served jail time and added that raids were being carried out to capture his companions.The suspect has been given to the police for additional legal proceedings, the Rangers revealed.
Armed men raid the Korangi fire station, killing two people
Two members of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s fire department were killed and another was injured earlier this month when unknown assailants opened fire on a fire station in the city’s Korangi neighbourhood.
According to police, two people were killed instantly and another was injured when unknown assailants opened fire on a fire brigade office in Korangi, close to Bilal Chowrangi, inside the boundaries of the Awami Colony police station. Amir, 55, and Mehboob, 40, members of the fire department, were named as the deceased, and Irshad, 30, as the injured.
According to the authorities, the suspects scaled the walls to enter the fire brigade office and held the security guard at gunpoint hostage. One of the suspects brought the victims together before shooting them after they were brought into the office.
Zeeshan, another employee, was also present when the incident happened. Two armed guys barged into the fire station and demanded that I stand next to a phone operator in a control room while they inquired about other personnel.
