PESHAWAR: At least ten people were killed and dozens other were seriously injured as a bomb blast took place near a check post in Peshawar’s Karkhano Market, adjacent to Jamrud in Khyber Agency on early on Tuesday mornring.
“Eight people have been killed and 22 others injured,” officials of Hayatabad Medical Complex were quoted as saying. Casualties are feared to rise, the officials added. Further, a hospital source said a child and four security officials are among the dead.
The target of the bomb blast, Jamrud Khasadar Line officer Nawab Shah was also killed in the attack, political sources confirmed.
Eyewitnesses say the explosive device was planted in a motorbike. However, there are conflicting reports as to whether it was a suicide blast or a remotely controlled device. ”Cars and the area around the site of the blast are engulfed in fire,” an eyewitness said.
