CHARSADDA: At least 21 people including students and faculty members were killed and over 60 others wounded when terrorists stormed Bacha Khan University here Wednesday morning. Eight terrorists were killed in operation of security forces.
Police said that taking the advantage of dense fog, a gang of terrorists equipped with heavy and automated weapons climbed the back wall of Bacha Khan University near Charsadda Town of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The terrorists stated to be suicide bombers when were intercepted killed four security guards of the BKU and attacked the students and teachers. According to reports received from different sources 30 people including teachers, students, security guards and others were martyred.
Soon after the attack heavy contingent of Pakistan Army soldiers reached the scene took the positions and exchange of fire took place between the assailants and security personnel. The cross firing continued for several hours after which all six terrorists were killed.
The mastermind of the APS Peshawar attack, Umar Mansoor, of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Geedar group has claimed the attack through a post on his Facebook page, adding that four attackers were sent to the university.
However, a spokesperson from the TTP Mohammad Khorasani issued a conflicting statement shortly after Mansoor’s claim, in which Khorasani condemned the attack, terming it “against Shariah”. Khorasani also warned that those “using the naming of TTP will be brought to justice”.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Chairman PTI Imran Khan, Governor KP Sardar Mahtab, leaders of different political parties and higher officials visit the Bacha University after the attack. They lauded the security forces for their committed efforts in sabotaging the nefarious designs of the terrorist and preventing massive human losses through timely action. They also vowed to continue supporting the ongoing war against terrorism and bringing the plotters ofCharsadda University attack to book.
