ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari felicitated Dr. Arif Alvi on his election as 13th president of Pakistan.
Zardari stated Alvi’s election would further strengthen democratic norms. “A stable Pakistan should be priority of all of us”, stated Zardari.
“The post of Pakistan’s president represents all four provinces. We should adopt democratic system in all walks of life”, asserted Zardari.
Earlier the day, lawmakers elected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Arif Alvi as the 13th President of Pakistan after the vote count ended at around 5pm.
According to unofficial results, Alvi managed to get 212 votes in parliament, 186 in the Punjab Assembly, 56 votes in Sindh, 78 in KP and 45 votes in the Balochistan Assembly. NNI
