PESHAWAR: President of Awami National Party (ANP) Asfandyar Wali has alleged massive rigging in local bodies elections by Pakistan Tehrik e Insaaf and said they would not accept the results.
Giving his reaction over a private TV channel about the LG elections on Sunday, the ANP leader said that a basis has been laid by PTI for rigging in election and pointed that even a coalition partner of the provincial government has admitted the rigging.
He said after these allegations, there is no legal and constitutional basis for the local government elections. He said it is surprising that if rigging takes place in Punjab, the caretaker government and a political party is held responsible but when it happens in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, the entire blame is put on the Election Commission of Pakistan. The ANP President took strong exception to the slow pace of results and said it reflects the malafide intention of the provincial government. He also alleged that the rigging was done by the PTI with the help of Police and the ANP would not accept the results.
Asfandyar Wali said the ANP would decide the next course of action after consultations. He questioned PTI whether rigging of elections was the foundation of a new Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.
He said while the opposition criticises the wrong doings of a government but in the case of the LG elections, even Jamaat-e-Islami, a coalition partner in KP has also conceded that there was rigging. He said the portfolio of Local government is with Jamaat and it should be ashamed over what has happened.
