Says attacking own citizen in democratic society condemnable

Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD: Army of Pakistan always played key role in resolving the internal issues of the country. We should all appreciate efforts of army in successfully negotiating with protesters to end the protest. This was stated by head of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM) Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafary in an exclusive interview with Sardar Khan Niazi in renowned talk show of Roze News ‘Sachi Baat’ on Monday.

Answering a question that when will civilian government start taking responsibility as in any crucial time army is called in to deal with the issues, Nasir Abbas said that incumbent government has shown time and again that it lacks the vision to deal with issue and ultimately it calls army to take it out from crises. He said this is not the first time army played role in convincing protesters, while giving example of a protest of few months before in Parachinar he said that civilian government had failed and COAS convinced protesters to end the sit in.

Nasir Abbas said that many issues including Lahore model town tragedy and recent operation against protesters in Faizabad could have been avoided by showing some flexibility and vision. He said that incumbent government has not learnt from its past mistakes and it keeps repeating the same blunders again and again. In democratic and civilized societies, people enjoy the right to raise their concerns and protest, but in Pakistan authorities use force against protesters which is extremely condemnable, he added. He said that had the Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid presented his resignation earlier, clashes with protesters could have been avoided. He said that statements of ministers of ruling party are ambiguous, he questioned that how is it possible that Interior Minister of the country not aware with the decision of initiating operation against the protesters.

He said that some journalists also tried to portray wrong picture regarding protest. He condemned statement of Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami in which he claimed that protesters were trained people who could use advanced weapons with ease. Nasir Abbas said that such journalists are curse and only money making is their agenda. He said that it is unfortunate that there is no shortage of journalists who use this noble profession as increasing their wealth.

He said that government complicates the issues that lead the people to come on streets to protest. While giving an example he said that Deputy Secretary General MWM Nasir Sherazi, who was taken into custody 27 days before by people in police uniform from his residence in Lahore was still missing. He said that is law of jungle prevailing in the country that despite efforts FIR is not being lodged. He said that if in few coming days arrest of Nasir Sherazi is not made public, MWM can give call of countrywide protests.
