RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has directed to hold an inquiry to find out truth in the casè of Aftab Ahmed, who died in Karachi yesterday.
According to a press release by military’s media win ISPR, the COAS instructed to ensure that justice must be done. It is worth mentioning that a senior worker of the MQM and Coordinator for Dr Farooq Sattar died in custody on Tuesday and there are contradicting reports about the circumstances leading to his death.
“We demand that a medical board be constituted to thoroughly investigate the death of the MQM worker,” an MQM leader said.
Rangers had taken Hussain in custody from his Federal B Area residence two days before his death. The paramilitary force had acquired 90-day remand of the suspect a day before he was admitted in hospital.
He was shifted to the hospital early Tuesday morning while the administration there stated that he died at 8:20am. Dr Sattar had called for a fair probe in Hussain’s death. He said that Hussain’s family should be assured that the cause of his death was natural.
According to a report issued after his autopsy, Aftab’s heart beat and nerves were not functioning when he was brought to the hospital, however, despite putting him on a ventilator, doctors failed to restore his breath.
DG Rangers forms committee to probe Aftab’s death
Director General Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar has ordered an inquiry into the killing.
“A high-level investigation committee has been constituted on directives of DG Rangers to ascertain motives behind Aftab Ahmed’s death. Officials possibly involved in the incident have been suspended,” Rangers spokesman said in a statement.
While doctors reserved the cause of death of Ahmed, the paramilitary force claimed that the activist died of heart failure. Meanwhile, MQM observed a day of mourning Wednesday over Hussain’s death.
