KARACHI, Sep 30 (INP) Second day of anti-polio drive in Karachi was postponed in four high risk districts due to non-availability of security whereas the campaign continued in southern and western districts on Tuesday.  The areas in which the campaign is delayed include Malir, central district, eastern district and district of Korangi. The campaign has now been rescheduled on October 3, 4 and 5 in the areas.

The campaign is continuing only in the union councils of in the southern and western districts.  Anti-polio campaign could not be commenced the day before because of administrative disorder and non-availability of security to volunteer teams. The polio vaccination campaign would target 2.2 million children below the age of 5 years.  The highly sensitive areas in which the campaign has been instigated include various areas of Surjani Town, Gadap Town, Malir Town, Korangi Town, Landhi and Baldia Town.

Earlier, anti-polio drive in Karachi was facing certain serious problems in sensitive areas. On the other hand, three-day anti-polio drive in South Punjab including Multan is continuing. 17.5 million children of the province will be given polio vaccine during this drive. 29,000 teams have been formed in this regard. To make the drive effective, polio teams have set up stalls at railway stations, schools, government hospitals and bus-stands along with door-to-door drive.
