Another cowardly attack

After almost one year of brutal attack on Army Public School in Peshawar, terrorists attacked another educational institution in the same province on Wednesday. This time Bacha Khan University was attacked by armed militants.

The mastermind of the APS Peshawar attack, Umar Mansoor, of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Geedar group has claimed the responsibility of the attack and unveiled that four attackers were sent to the university. At least 21 students and faculty members of the University have been martyred in the attack while all the four terrorists were killed by the security forces.

We have united on one point agenda that we as a nation will end this menace of terrorism. A 20-point National Action Plan backed by all the political parties and military establishment was launched to end the monster of terrorism from our beloved country. Despite the successful operations against militants, still they are out there, hidden in the remote areas of the country. At this time our primary focus should be on the implementation of all points of NAP in true letter and spirit.

At the same time we can not brush aside the involvement of other countries to destabilize our homeland. A couple of days before Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said “those who attacked us will also feel the same pain, the place and type of response would be of our choice.” He also said that patience of Indian government is running thin regarding Pakistan’s actions against militant outfits which have allegedly been involved in attacks in India.

But at first we should clean our backyard. We also need to take measures to single out abettors of terrorists. It has been witnessed that in number of terrorist incidents, people present in our society have facilitated the terrorists.

The need of time is to implement all 20-points of NAP in true letter and spirit to curb terrorism.
